C1 and C2 September/October Website 2010

I would like to welcome everyone to Room C.  Most of the children are returning for another exciting and fun year at Goshen Friends.  Some may be new to our school and we are excited to have you in the class.

The children will be learning and playing all year. Learning to share, taking turns, following routines, recognizing their name and their classmates' names, and acting cooperatively in a group are some of the goals we will be focusing on this year.  The children will also learn to function as a respectful community of friends.

Preschool is a time for active learning through play.  Oral language, memory, self-regulation, symbol recognition, and literacy skills are linked to play. The children will be learning to play cooperatively.  It is our goal for the children to treat their new friends with respect and act in a caring way.  This will be learned through direct teacher/child interaction and modeling.

Our theme for the year is friendship.  This will be integrated into every part of our classroom throughout the year.  It will be emphasized in free play and directed play.  Many of our circle times will be devoted to developing friendship skills.

Both classes will be attending Highland Orchards on October 7th during their respective class times.  This trip includes a hayride, scarecrow making, and an apple press to make cider.  We will be getting a delicious snack while we are there.  The cost is $8.00 per person. I hope all parents join us.  It is a great opportunity to meet the children and other parents.

We will be having a visit from the fire trucks on October 20th to learn about fire prevention. The Hazard House will also be here. This is a dollhouse that will be used to enforce fire safety.

Halloween is at the end of October.  We will be celebrating that with a party and a parade. Please have your child dressed in his/her costume when they arrive at school. The children are always interested in witches, ghosts, and spiders.  We will have fun singing about them and creating them

Music and Show-N-Tell will begin the week of September 20th. A schedule will be sent home telling you when your child has his/her Show-N-Tell time.  A seasonable item, picture, or favorite toy is appropriate.
