Welcome to Kindergarten Parents and Friends!

May is here!  The flowers are growing and the Kindergarten students are very much ready for the end of the year activities!! They too have grown so much since September!

Week # 1, May 3-7: Mr. Cotton Candy carefully tells us to bring our Cc phonics cards to class.  He calls for c words such as cheers for cheetah, cow, cat, camel, canary, candy, carrot, cabbage, cherry, castle, carpet, caterpillar, caps, etc. 

This is Goshen Friends International Week!!!  Thursday, May 6 is the International Dinner starting at 5:30 pm. on the GFS Campus.  It features the cuisine of many other countries. On Friday, May 7 the Kindergarten class will present their project on Iran.

Week # 2, May 10-14: Miss Optimistic says, “Oh, you brought your Oo phonics cards!”  There are oodles of “Oo” words.  Open the gate and you may find an ox, otter, orangutan, or an okapi eating okra, olives, or oranges.  Oh, so delicious!  “Oh, yes!”  Raphael’s summer birthday will be celebrated on Tuesday, June,1.

Tuesday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m., the Celebration of Friends Day begins in the Lower School.  International Week extends to our special friends, and the Kindergarten class plans to share projects and information which we have learned about Iran.

(The morning class is invited to stay for lunch today and continue to stay until the afternoon class dismissal at 3:00 p.m.)

Thursday, May 13, the Kindergarten plans to host a lemonade stand for all our friends at Goshen Friends School.  The stand is open at 10:00 -11:30 a.m. We use homemade paper money.  It is a great social event!

Friday, May 14 we will celebrate Jackson’s summer birthday.

Week # 3, May 17-21: Oceanography is the theme of this “O” week!  When do we use the words octopus, octopuses or octopi?  This week we study all kinds of ocean creatures including shells found in the ocean.

Tuesday, May 18, the chicken embryos arrive!  Thanks to Toni Stutz, Chester County 4-H club agent, who helped make this exciting science project possible!!!!

Wednesday, May 19 is the Lower School’s Spring Concert.  Kindergarten and First Grade perform at 6:00 p.m. in the Meeting House.  Tr. Charmagne is directing this wonderful musical event!  Please plan to have your child come to the Preschool Room B by 5:45 p.m. to gather for the performance. Thank you!

Friday, May 14 will be Karlie’s summer birthday celebration.

Week # 4, May 24-28:  Mr. Zipping Zippers zips along asking our friends to bring their Zz phonics cards to School.  Some z words are zebra, zoo, zip code, zigzag, and zodiac.

Tuesday, May 25 is the “Kindergarten Bus Trip to the Zoo!!!!  The bus will leave GFS at 8:30 a.m. and return before 3:00 p.m.  Please plan on carrying a disposable lunch.

Wednesday, May 26, Kindergarten and 4th Grade students will gather to do a service project.  We will sort various personal care products making individual shelter packs for the guests at the Salvation Army and the Home of the Sparrow.

Thursday, May 27 we plan a special science project.  Could it be a rocket launch?

Friday, May 28 is Grant’s summer birthday celebration. 

Week #5, May 31-June 4: Monday, May 31 is Memorial Day so school is closed and on Tuesday, June 1, school resumes.

Thursday, June 3 is “Game Day”, and Tr. Wes plans these activities. Please dress for the weather, and wear sneakers, hats, and bring water bottles.  Your child will be assigned a team color.  More details will follow. (The morning class is invited to stay for lunch today and afternoon dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.)

Friday, June 4 is Letter People Day!!!  Please come to school dressed as your favorite Letter Person.

Week #6, June 7-June11: On Monday, June 7, the Kindergarten sings at Bellingham with Tr. Charmagne leading.

Tuesday, June 8, is the “Kindergarten Celebration Program” at 10:00 a.m.!!!  Parents and friends, please reserve this very important date where your child will be an active participant.  Each child will receive a certificate and read a poem.  The class will sing too!!!  Tr. Rosa Ana will even lead the children in some Spanish songs.

Thursday, June 10 is the last day for kindergarten enrichment.

Friday, June 11 is the Kindergarten’s last day of school and the 5th Grade Graduation.

The all school picnic occurs after the Graduation at around 11:30 a.m. 

We have really enjoyed your children this year!!  Have a great summer!!
