Welcome May! As we will finish up our study of simple machines and rocks, we will move into the study of plants, soil, and our big insect unit. We will be working on a sewing project as well.
In Math, we have finished the unit on time and now we are studying numbers to 100, including groups of ten, skip counting, odd and even numbers and ordinal numbers. After this unit we begin place value. Please continue studying addition and subtraction facts.
In Wilson and Language Arts, we are learning about multisyllabic words, compound words, division rules for syllables and non-fiction paragraph structure. We continue to identify base words and suffixes. This month the children will be create an insect journal about the insect of their choice using both creative writing and factual information. As usual and on an on-going basis, the children practice word work with their Wilson trick words and unit words, log in the books they read individually, buddy read and read and discuss books in small groups.
On Thursday, May 20th, we have an outdoor field trip to Colonial Plantation in Media. We had a wonderful Earth day on April 22nd. The Lower School and Parents and Teachers planted 35 trees along the bank of Crum Creek in Kirkwood Preserve in Willistown. Thank you so much to the parent participants! You all worked so hard.
International Week starts on May 3rd and it is filled with hands on activities from around the world for the entire week. Our class will focus on beautiful Venezuela. Thank you to Maestra Rosana for all of her support. Please come to the music and arts events throughout the week and enjoy all the amazing flags hanging in the Lower School hallway!
In Friendship,
Tr. Barbara
